چکیده

The mating behaviour and egg laying pattern of the areca nut white grub, Leucopholis lepidophora, were studied in Shivamogga district’s Hosanagara taluk. Females active between 18:40 19:20 hrs, when light intensity dropped to 83.62 lux. most males approached virgin female at 18:50 hrs (15.94 lux) session ended (0.26 lux). typical L. lepidophora was investigated. Female beetles began abdominal expansion contraction, which could indicate that semiochemical secretion has begun. Males then approached, calling out females. Male raised all its legs, turned body ventrally, became suspended by genitalia after inserting into abdomen. Copulation lasted an average 74.60±6.61 minutes. adult female’s pre-oviposition period, oviposition postoviposition period 9.56± 2.04 days, 3.72± 2.35 5.24± 4.67 respectively. longevity ranged from 11 28 with 18.52± 4.91 days. incubation varying fecundity clutch intervals ranging 24-48 hours. Experiment on revealed females waited days before began, they lay numbers eggs interval approximately

Biocontrol Potential of Entomopathogenic Nematodes Heterorhabditis and Steinernema Against Second Instar Grub of White grub, Leucopholis lepidophora (Blanchard)

The effectiveness of two entomopathogenic nematodes (EPN) viz., Heterorhabditis indica strain NBAII-104 and Steinernema carpocapsae strain NBAII-04 against second instar grubs of L. lepidophora (Blanchard) under pot culture experiment. At a concentration of 450 IJs ml, H. indica recorded highest mortality (87.60%) at 15 DAT. While, S.carpocapsae recorded 54.05 per cent grub mortality at 450 IJs...

Use of Radiography in Behavioral Studies of Turfgrass-Infesting Scarab Grub Species (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae)

The behavior of turfgrass-infesting scarab grubs in response to soil physical properties may affect the stress that each species exerts on turfgrass and the efficacy of control tactics. To gain a more realistic picture of the events that occur within the soil matrix, we have developed a nondestructive X-ray technique to study soil insect movement and behavior in simulated and natural soil block...

POPULATION STUDIES OF GRASS GRUB (Costelytra zealandica) AND BLACK BEETLE (Heteronychus arator) (COLEOPTERA: SCARABAEIDAE)

Population studies of grass grub and black beetle have revealed simple patterns of population determination. Populations fluctuate in response to variations in soil moisture and temperature. The upper limit to population growth is set by density dependent factors (larval mortality of grass grub and variation in natality of black beetle). Parasites and predators appear to be generally unimportan...

Areca Nut Use and Cancer in India

The areca nut, fruit of the oriental palm (Areca catechu), also called 'betel' nut in English, supari in Hindi, adike or betta in Kannada, adakka in Malayalam, and pakku in Tamil, is commonly used in India (FRLHT.org, 2015) and needs no introduction. It is used in traditional quids (beeda) wrapped in betel leaves (Piper betle) or as tobacco and areca nut mixtures. Areca nut is also used per se ...
